2024 NFL mock draft: Eagles reload on defense after pulling off six trades in 7-rounds (1)

It’s NFL draft time, and no GM in the NFL makes better use of the board than Philadelphia Eagles top executive Howie Roseman.

Philadelphia’s GM hasconducted over41 draft-day tradesover the past ten years, not including the 2015 draft when coach Chip Kelly snatched personnel control.

With the selection process fast approaching and using PFF’s simulator, we’re looking at six trades in seven rounds. The Eagles swap picks in every round except the final, finishing with 13 players selected.

Rd 1 Pick 27: Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama

The Eagles traded pick No. 22 to the Cardinals for pick No. 27, No. 90 (Rd 3), and pick No. 226 (Rd 7).

After the trade, Philadelphia selects Alabama star cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry. With Darius Slay and James Bradberry in the lineup, McKinstry doesn’t have to be a Day 1 starter.

Rd 2 Pick 52: Chris Braswell, Edge Rusher, Alabama

The Eagles trade pick No. 50 to the Rams for Pick No. 54 and pick No. 154 in round five.

After swapping picks, Philadelphia adds a talented edge rusher to the mix, drafting Alabama’s Chris Braswell.

Standing 6-foot-3, 251 pounds, Braswell recorded 10.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, and three forced fumbles during his final season.

Rd 2 Pick 53: Edgerrin Cooper, LB, Texas A&M

Cooper ran a 4.52 40-yard dash at the combine, and the 6-foot-2, 227-pound Texas A&M linebacker is just what the doctor ordered for Philadelphia.

A consensus All-American, Cooper led the SEC with 17 tackles for loss. In 2023, Cooper finished with 83 tackles, eight sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries as part of a top-25 scoring defense.

Rd 3 Pick 95: Eric All, TE, Iowa

Philadelphia trades pick No. 90 (Rd 3) to Kansas City for pick No. 95 (Rd 3) and pick No. 159 (Rd 5).

With the pick, the Eagles start planning for life after Dallas Goedert, targeting Iowa’s talented tight end, Eric All.

In 2023, All had 21 catches for 299 yards, an average of 14.2 yards per reception, and three touchdowns. His best game at Iowa came in a 20-14 win against Purdue on Oct. 7, when he caught five passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Rd 4 Pick 130: Jordan Magee, LB, Temple

Philadelphia trades pick No. 120 (Rd 4) to the Baltimore Ravens for pick No. 130 (Rd 4) and pick No. 218 (Rd 6).

With the pick, the Eagles land Temple’s Jordan Magee.

The only Temple Owls prospect at the NFL combine, Magee could be the perfect late-round pick for the Eagles after his performance in Indianapolis. A first-team All-American Athletic Conference selection in 2023, Magee finished his Owls career with 235 career tackles (31 for losses), 11 passes defended, two forced fumbles, and one interception over five seasons.

Magee ran a 4.55-second 40-yard dash (fifth fastest) with a 1.54 split (tied for best), jumped 10 feet, 4 inches in the broad jump (tied for third), and leaped 35½ inches in the vertical jump (tied for fourth).

Magee showcased excellent change-of-direction ability and could replace Shaun Bradley on the roster.

Rd 5 Pick 156: Will Shipley, RB, Clemson

Philadelphia trades picks 154 (Rd 5) and 210 (Rd 6) to Cleveland for picks No. 156 (Rd 5) and No. 206 (Rd 6).

With the pick, the Eagles add another talented dual-threat running back to the roster by selecting Clemson’s Will Shipley.

In his final game at Clemson, Shipley recorded 132 all-purpose yards to help the Tigers win 38-35 over Kentucky in the Gator Bowl on Dec. 29. Shipley returned two kickoffs for 94 yards, rushed for 29 yards, and caught two passes for nine yards before exiting with an injury.

Shipley finished the 2023 season with 827 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He also added 31 receptions for 244 yards and two more scores.

The 2022 campaign was Shipley’s best statical season, as the dual-threat running back rushed for 1,182 yards and 15 touchdowns and added 38 catches for 242 yards. He finishes his college career with 2,748 yards and 31 touchdowns rushing to go with more than 600 yards receiving.

Rd 4 Pick 159: Jordan Whittington, WR, Texas

Whittington was overshadowed by Xavier Worthy and other playmakers in a loaded Texas offense, but the former Longhorns pass catcher offers burst on the outside and special teams prowess. During his career at the University of Texas, Whittington caught 141 passes for 1,757 yards and five scores. Whittington’s final year with the Longhorns saw him catch 42 passes for 505 yards and one score in 14 games.

Rd 5 Pick 161: Zak Zinter, OL, Michigan

Zinter can play multiple positions and be a plug-and-play right guard immediately for the Eagles, or add depth behind Tyler Steen.

Rd 5 Pick 171: Kitan Oladapo, S, Oregon State

During his final season with the Beavers, Oladapo allowed 21 catches on 36 targets for 212 yards, 58 yards after the catch, one touchdown, two interceptions, seven pass breakups, and a career-best opponent passer rating of 61.3. Vic Fangio’s defense is predicated on versatility; Oladapo can play everywhere from the box to the slot to free to outside corner.

Rd 5 Pick 172: Beaux Limmer, Center, Arkansas

A player who can cross-train at guard or center, Limmer started the last 36 games for Arkansas, splitting his time between center and guard in the previous two years. According to Pro Football Focus, he graded out as the fourth-best center in the SEC this past year. Limmer offers versatility and is a potential backup to Cam Jurgens, Tyler Steen, or Landon Dickerson.

Rd 6 Pick 209: James Williams, S, Miami (Fl)

Philadelphia trades pick 206 (Rd 6) to the Rams for pick No. 209 (Rd 6) and a 2025 late-round pick. Standing 6 foot 5, 215 pounds, Williams recorded a team-high 73 tackles this season. He added an interception, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. He led Miami with 730 defensive snaps this season, registering a 84.7 coverage grade from Pro Football Focused, the highest on the team. Williams was the top safety recruit in the recruiting class 2021 and the 14th rated player overall, and could transition to linebacker.

Rd 6 Pick 218: Elijah Jones, CB, Boston College

Jones was a first-team All-ACC selection in 2023 and tied the Boston College record for career games played at 60. During his final season, Jones played and started in nine games, recording 25 tackles, five interceptions, and eight passes defended.

In 2023, he was named to the All-Missouri Valley first team, AFCA FCS All-American first team, and Stats Perform FCS All-American Third Team. He became the 15th Bison to be named to the aforementioned Shrine Bowl in November. The 6-foot-5 Maryville, Mo. native played in 57 games and started 40 games in a row.
